<p>There are thousands of applications available on Facebook. Many are free to use but the users are not aware of them. Others provide a different and unique platform and could be used for various purposes. Some are for cutting time and gaining pleasure. Thus we could categorize these applications into entertainment, games, photo and video, security and utility.</p>

<td align="left">
<p>I have seen many people in search for security applications of Facebook because of the risk of malwares, viruses and bugs. Others are just looking for ways to promote their business or services. But these are rarely found and even if one comes across any application of required category, it is not free to use. Below are the descriptions of some of the top security and self-help applications which could be used to run a virus-free Facebook and tools to enhance work productivity.</p>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>This application can protect you against all unknown links that are sometimes posted on your wall. You start wondering where the link has come from and the moment you click on it, you are doomed. But if you have <a href="https://apps.facebook.com/nortonsafeweb/" target="_blank"><strong>Norton Safe Web</strong></a> installed, it will scan the link and tell you if it is safe to click or not. By the Auto-scan option, you can let the application scan links automatically, in case one has forgotten to scan. </p>

<td align="left"><strong>&bull;	BitDefender Safego</strong></td>

<td align="left">
<p>One of the good things about <a href="http://www.facebook.com/bitdefender.safego" target="_blank"><strong>BitDefender Safego</strong></a> is that it specifies all places where there are viruses. If a link has come from one of your friend’s profile, the application will scan and let you know where the virus exists. Then you can even warn your friend about it. So relax and let the security app worry about your wall and news feed.</p>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Evolv, a startup monitoring statistics of the Fortune 500 companies, has uncovered new data to support the employees’ use of social media at work. According to their discovery, hourly employees who regularly use five or more social networks tend to make more sales, handle customers well, and remain on a job for longer (94 days tenure with an organization on average). On the other hand, people who avoid social networking tend to stay for only 83 days on average. </p>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>  It doesn’t, however, mean that using more social media necessarily makes you better at your job. The Evolv folks explain that it might as well be an indicator of computer literacy or sociability. The more people person you are, the better are going to be your marketing skills; the more sales you will make, and the more you would care for your customer’s satisfaction. </p>

<td align="left">
<p>Twitter is very educational when it comes to professional use. It influences public opinion, improves brand awareness, and also helps find new customers. It is also ideal for special promotions. <td align="left">
<p>LinkedIn is known as the “social network for business.” It is one of the biggest social platforms where professional services are offered for recruitment and executive search firms are able to find and contact talented individuals. It works like a powerful search tool which can also be used to collaborate with team members using shared projects and notes. For top level executives, the network works primarily for industry networking and promotion of business, whereas, for entry level employees, it is used for job search and networking with colleagues.</p>

<p>Google pages are different from Google profiles. They can be created for anything but target fans based on their location or role with your business (Partner, employee, customer) and so on. Professionals and brands can receive good fan following by using the hashtag feature. Best of all, it has a huge impact on Google search engine page results.</p>

<p>The advantages of Facebook marketing are known to all. Any brand with a successful fan following and a lively page can accomplish many of its branding goals through it. Any post on products goes viral and half of the world would know about it within seconds. Marketers also have the option to pay for promotions and interact with customers through Facebook messaging. It doesn’t matter what field you are in because you are sure to come across news articles, pictures, blogs, or tips that are applicable to your job. If you want, you can print it out and refer back to it regularly for inspiration. Moreover, it can be a great source for content.</p>

<p>Community managers are hired by companies to enhance their market image both online and offline. They design social strategies, build communities, tell stories and do marketing on various social forums for the company’s products. Most importantly, they are involved with projects that expand the user base of the company. Their main job is to increase the number of fans and customers through targeted schemes.</p>

<p>On Facebook, these managers can take the following steps for cultivating their Facebook community.</p>

<h3>1.	Singular voice</h3>

</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>If you happen to handle the social media marketing on Facebook alone then you can keep up with the feel and message of your company throughout. But if there are more people responsible for keeping the page updated, then, in order to sustain harmony in your voices, keep them synchronized with the company’s tone.</p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>For example, if your brand uses a funky tone for marketing; if its overall image is exciting and targets the youth; then a sober approach will not work as effectively as bold and vibrant image. Bonobos presents a perfect example for this.</p>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Understanding your brand and its products are important. It helps you plan your strategies accordingly. But, while loving the company or product you represent, you should also be aware of the customers’ complains and issues. Their ideas and feedback is just as crucial. </p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Mario Sundar, senior Social Media Manager at LinkedIn said that community managers should be empathetic, that will help them be better at responding to complaints. He gave an example of Zappos for having an exemplary customer support who sympathizes with the customers. He said, “A community manager&#8217;s role is no different.” </p>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Communication is the key element in any promotional strategy. Therefore, a communication manager has the ability to engage people effectively on his page. Constructive dialogue and interesting images really bring life to a social community. Both help people connect to the brand and with each other.</p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Communications background and writing experience is needed to be an effective communicator. To do this, a background in either marketing or journalism helps. Visual as well as written discourse should be in accordance with the company’s profile.</p>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Effective communication also demands knowledge of industry and its technical jargons which tell your readers that their brand knows what it does. Using the industry lingo should be a crucial part of your strategy.</p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Appropriate terminology includes the use of common acronyms, abbreviations, and concepts that reflect the true nature of your industry. If you can’t use them properly, that will be a poor representation of your company and even if you provide loads of content, it will add to the feeling of disconnection between the client and your brand. Whether you own the page or manage it for someone else, industry knowledge is simply a must.</p>

<p>As a Facebook community manager, you are expected to know and understand the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/policies" target="_blank"><strong>Facebook policies</strong></a>. You need to keep track of its various official changes at any given moment by following the newsroom and Facebook marketing page.</p>
</td>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>But most importantly, you need to remember what is and is not allowed by the social network to brand page owners and brand communities. Many pages shut down without warning for violation the terms and policies of the network. Once closed, it’s really difficult to get that page restored and you don’t want all your hard work to go down the drain due to negligence. Since the changes are frequent, make sure you check the updates regularly.</p>

<p>Prompt responses to customers are the biggest indicators of good community management on social media. Always respond quickly to create a bond with your page fans. Even if you don’t instantly know what to answer, let them know that you will get back to them ASAP or educate them through another source. Sometimes, sharing information from other authentic source validates your own credibility in the public’s eye.</p>

Individuals spend countless hours on Facebook doing a variety of stuff such as chatting, updating statuses, posting/sharing photos and videos. But little do they know that their behavior and activities on this social network could consequently cost them an employment opportunity. </p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>According to a research, many applicants are rejected because of their activities i.e. their comments, statuses, photos, and videos on Facebook. So the question that arises is:</p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">&nbsp;</td>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<h3>Why Are Employers Interested In My Facebook Page?</h3>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="center"><img style="border: 1px solid #ccc; margin: 5px; padding:5px" src="http://www.socialdon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Employers-Interested.jpg" title="Employers Interested"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Research indicates that employers ask applicants for their Facebook page, so as to evaluate their character and attitude by going through their Facebook profile. Moreover, surveys show that approximately 75% of employers investigate candidates’ profiles before recruiting them.</p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>If the employer finds any sort of obscene or repulsive material linked to the applicant’s Facebook profile, he rejects him at once. </p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Lately, it has been observed that employers have made it compulsory for applicants to give their Facebook password, as part of the interview requirement. This is done so that the employers can gain access to information, which is invisible to other users such as chats etc. And again, if he finds anything thing outrageous, he may reject the applicant. Quite preposterous, isn’t it?</p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">&nbsp;</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<h3>But Why Our Facebook Profile?</h3>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="center"><img style="border: 1px solid #ccc; margin: 5px; padding:5px" src="http://www.socialdon.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Our-Facebook.jpg" title="Our Facebook"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>The question that prevails in the mind of those who have had this experience, and those who are yet to have it is, “Why do we have to be judged by our Facebook profile?”  Well according to the employers, the whole process of recruitment is quite expensive and risky too. Therefore, they need to collect as much information (of the applicant) as possible. </p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>The employers also maintain that the practice of asking for passwords is not all “unethical”. They feel that researching on an applicant, before hiring him is highly necessary. And examining their profiles is a great way to have a background check. </p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="center">&nbsp;</td>

<tr>
<td align="left">
<h3>Personal Opinion &#8211; Blatant violation of privacy</h3>
</td>

<tr>

</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>From the applicants’ perspective, this act is a blatant violation of privacy. Facebook is a social network where people share their personal views and opinions with their known ones. No employer has the right to meddle in someone’s social life. What applicants do on Facebook is totally none of their concern!</p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>Professional and personal lives are two entirely different facets, and it would be better if the employers kept them that way. I’m sure you don’t those crazy things (the ones you do with your friends) in your professional life. </p>
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td align="left">
<p>In all honesty, the practice of asking applicants their Facebook password and then appraising them according to the content found on the page is illegal, and downright preposterous. </p>
